The naysayers are angry. They get the local people to attack. So Nehemiah assigns half his people as watchmen.
Rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem is an enormous task. Nehemiah assigns people their place to work based on where they live and what skills they have.
Nehemiah is a an official in the court of Artaxerxes of Persia. In 445 BC, he travels to Jerusalem, overcomes opposition, and rebuilds the walls of the city.
Nehemiah was a cup-bearer to Artaxerxes, king of Persia. He learned terrible news about the remnant in Judah and the city of Jerusalem. He grieved and fasted.
