In 587 BC, Nebuchadnezzar conquered Jerusalem. He deported the tribe of Judah to Babylon. Later, on three separate occasions, some are permitted to return.
THE FIRST RETURN. In 538 BC, Zerubbabel returned to rebuild the temple. This is described in Ezra 1 to 6, and the Book of Haggai, and the Book of Zechariah.
THE SECOND RETURN. In 458 BC, Ezra returned to reform the people. This is described in Ezra 7 to 10.
THE THIRD RETURN. In 444 BC, Nehemiah returned in order to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. This is described in the Book of Nehemiah.
