Bible heroes who were homeless
In our day, many church leaders have fine homes and are paid a decent income. But in the Bible, some of our greatest heroes were poor and sometimes homeless.
The Prophet Elijah
1 Kings 17:5. So he went and did according to the LORD’s word, for he went and lived by the brook Cherith that is before the Jordan.
1 Kings 17:9. Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to sustain you.
The Lord Jesus Christ
Matthew 8:20. Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
Luke 9:58. Jesus said to him, “The foxes have holes, and the birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head.”
2 Corinthians 8:9. For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich. (NIV translation)
The Apostle Paul
1 Corinthians 4:11. Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.
2 Corinthians 11:27. in labor and travail, in watchings often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, and in cold and nakedness.
The Angels
Hebrews 13:2. Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for in doing so, some have entertained angels without knowing it.
The Jewish People
Deuteronomy 2:7. For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has known your walking through this great wilderness. These forty years, the LORD your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.
