Anglican

Anglicanism is from England. It is one of the largest branches of Christianity, with around 110 million adherents worldwide as of 2001.

Apostle

An apostle is an emissary of the Lord Jesus Christ. Apostles are sent.

Bad Guys

Villans. In the Bible, there are many bad guys. In our day, bad guys often masquerade as professing Christian believers.

Baptist

Baptists are a major branch of Protestantism. They are distinguished by baptizing professing Christian believers only.

Buddhist

Buddhism began in India. In our day, it is the world’s fourth-largest religion, with over 520 million followers. Many Christians are friends with Buddhists.

Catholic

The Catholic Church is the largest Christian church, with 1.3 billion members in 2019. It consists of 24 independent churches. It is led by the bishop of Rome.

Carmelite

Carmel is a Catholic mendicant religious order for men and women. Their movement probably began in the 12th century on Mount Carmel.

Doctor of the Church

The Catholic Church gives the title “Doctor of the Church” to their very greatest teachers of theology or doctrine.

Evangelical

Evangelicalism is a movement within Protestantism that affirms the centrality of being “born again.” In 2016, there were an estimated 619 million evangelicals.

Hero

A hero (or heroine) combats adversity through feats of ingenuity, courage, or strength. Or faith.

Hindu

Hinduism is an ancient religion from the Indian subcontinent. In 2022 there were an estimated 1.35 billion worldwide. Many Christians are friends with Hindus.

Japan

Japan is an island country in East Asia. Christianity was first introduced into Japan in 1549. It is rich with great saints and martyrs.

Jewish

Jewish people are the people of God’s first choice. In our day, there are an estimated 17.8 million Jewish people. Many Christians have Jewish friends.

Korean

Koreans are an East Asian ethnic group native to the Korean Peninsula. Christianity was first introduced in 1784. It is rich with great saints and martyrs.

Martyr

A martyr suffers persecution and death for their religious belief.

Missionary

A missionary is a member of a religious group who is sent into an area to promote its faith.

Muslim

Muslims are people who adhere to Islam, a monotheistic religion. In 2020 there were an estimated 1.9 billion Muslims. Many Christians have Muslim friends.

Mystic

A mystic is a person who practices mysticism. In our context, they practice mystical prayer.

Orthodox

The Eastern Orthodox Church, also called the Orthodox Church, is the second-largest Christian church, with approximately 220 million baptized members.

Pentecostal

Pentecostalism is a Protestant Charismatic Christian movement that emphasizes direct personal experience of God through baptism with the Holy Spirit.

Quaker

Quakers, or the Religious Society of Friends, believe in each person’s ability to experience the Light within. In 2017 there were an estimated 377,557 Quakers.

Reformer

The Reformation was a major movement in 16th-century Europe. It challenged corruption and errors in the papacy. It was the start of Protestantism.

Theologian

A theologian studies the nature of the Divine as well as religious belief.

Woman

A woman is an adult female human.
