Choose this Day whom you will Serve

| |

To choose the way of life means to learn from the Bible and act upon it. Blessings and wisdom will follow. As for you and your house, will you serve the LORD?

INTRODUCTION

In the ancient Greek world, wisdom was discovered through a lively philosophical debate with wise people.

But in the Old Testament, walking with the LORD God consisted of two things. You needed both:

1. LEARNING the commandments: studying, discussing, memorizing, hearing them taught, hearing them preached.

2. DOING the commandments. It is not enough to “know” the truth. We must act on it. We must put it into practice. We are called to Action-Faith.

In our day, walking with Jesus Christ entails two pursuits:

1. LEARNING the teachings of the Lord Jesus: studying, discussing, memorizing, hearing them taught, hearing them preached. In essence, we are to be students of the Scriptures.

2. DOING the teachings of Jesus. We are to DO as Jesus taught. It is not enough to “know” the truth. We must act on it. We must put it into practice.

In our day many Christians say something like this:

The Lord knows what is in my heart.

Yet they do not learn the teachings of Jesus. Nor do they act upon them.

Doers of the law will be justified. We Christians say salvation is by faith. Yet the New Testament calls us to put our faith into action. Otherwise our faith is worthless.
