False Prophets

False prophets tell us they are prophesying in the name of the LORD God. But the LORD God did not send them. What they prophesy is a lie. They are agents of evil.

 

 

No matter how sincere he appears to be, a false prophet makes people believe in lies. They are agents of evil.

Just because someone is preaching does not mean the LORD God sent them.

 

THE LORD GOD DID NOT SEND THEM

Jeremiah 28:15. Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah! The Lord did not send you, and you have made the people of Judah trust in lies. (NCV translation)

Jeremiah 29:23. because they have done foolish things in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken words in my name falsely, which I didn’t command them. I am he who knows, and am witness,” says the LORD.

WHAT THEY PROPHESY IS A LIE

Jeremiah 28:15. Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah! The Lord did not send you, and you have made the people of Judah trust in lies. (NCV translation)

Jeremiah 29:9. For they prophesy falsely to you in my name. I have not sent them,” says the LORD.

Jeremiah 29:21. The LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in my name: “Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he will kill them before your eyes.

EXAMPLES OF LYING IN THE NAME OF THE MOST HIGH GOD

Jeremiah 28:3. Within two full years I will bring again into this place all the vessels of the LORD’s house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried to Babylon.

Jeremiah 28:10. Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and broke it.

HOW CAN YOU TELL IF A PROPHET IS AUTHENTIC?

It is when their prophecy is fulfilled:

Jeremiah 28:9. The prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet happens, then the prophet will be known, that the LORD has truly sent him.”

Matthew 7:15-16. “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravening wolves. 16 By their fruits you will know them. Do you gather grapes from thorns, or figs from thistles?

Unfortunately, that can take years or decades. In the meantime, a false prophet can deceive multitudes.
