How to select a Bible chapter to memorize
To memorize a chapter from the Bible is to make a BIG commitment. How do you decide which chapter to memorize?
Every chapter of the Bible charms us with reasons why it would be a great choice. And every chapter shows at least a few reasons why we should not memorize it.
So I’d like to share with you my own selection criteria:
- Inspiring and uplifting
- A positive message, not a negative one
- A general message, not too specific
- Eminently useful for Ministry
- Not a defense of something
- Not fraternal correction or scolding
- Not a confrontation or attack
- Not a parable, as they are so specific
- Not too long. It seems to take forever to memorize a super-long chapter and it would probably be too discouraging.
Memorizing and review is a very big commitment, so you’ll want choose carefully.
That said, there are so many great chapters to memorize!
