It is easy to lose our first love
For Christians, our first love is the Lord Jesus Christ. Are you still in love with him? Have you lost your first love? How can you get it back?
Sirach 27:3. Unless a man hold on diligently in the fear of the Lord, His house will soon be overthrown.
Isaiah 5:12. The harp, lyre, tambourine, and flute, with wine, are at their feasts; but they don’t respect the work of the LORD, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.
Jeremiah 2:2. Go, cry out this message for Jerusalem to hear! I remember the devotion of your youth, how you loved me as a bride, Following me in the desert, in a land unknown (NAB translation)
Revelation 2:4. But I have this against you, that you left your first love.
Revelation 2:5. Remember therefore from where you have fallen, and repent and do the first works; or else I am coming to you swiftly, and will move your lamp stand out of its place, unless you repent.
Many Christians have lost their first love. Many simply got sidetracked and fell away.
Can you remember when you used to be in love with Christ? What was it like?
According to Revelation 2:5, recovering your first love has three steps:
STEP 1
The first step in recovering your first love for the Lord Jesus Christ is to remember how good it used to be.
Do you miss it?
STEP 2
Repent.
Christians often equate the word “repent” with an emotion of feeling sorry for sins.
However, the Greek word actually means “change your mind.”
STEP 3
Do the things you did at first. Do the spiritual practices you used to do.
Bible Reading and prayer are a great place to start.
