The Sins of the Forefathers

In ancient times most cultures assumed that children will suffer for the sins of their parents. That notion of the Generational Curse was abolished by Moses.

 


 

BEGINNINGS

 

Exodus 20:5. you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them, for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation of those who hate me,

Numbers 14:18. ‘The LORD is slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, forgiving iniquity and disobedience; and he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and on the fourth generation.’

Deuteronomy 23:3. An Ammonite or a Moabite shall not enter into the LORD’s assembly; even to the tenth generation shall no one belonging to them enter into the LORD’s assembly forever,

 

ABOLISHED

 

Deuteronomy 24:16. The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers. Every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

2 Kings 14:6. but the children of the murderers he didn’t put to death, according to that which is written in the scroll of the Torah of Moses, as the LORD commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, nor the children be put to death for the fathers; but every man shall die for his own sin.”

Psalm 79:8. Don’t hold the iniquities of our forefathers against us. Let your tender mercies speedily meet us, for we are in desperate need.

Sirach 23:25. Her children will not spread into roots, And her branches will bear no fruit.
