A Civil War in Heaven

Michael the Archangel leads the God-fearing angels into combat against Satan and his minions. They throw Satan and his minions out of heaven and to the earth.

 


 

INTRODUCTION

 

The Bible describes a past war in heaven between angels. Michael the Archangel leads the God-fearing angels into combat against Satan and his minions.

Satan was defeated and thrown down to the earth.

This civil war in heaven is related to the idea of demons as fallen angels.

 

A CIVIL WAR IN HEAVEN

 

Daniel 10:21. But I will tell you that which is inscribed in the writing of truth. There is no one who holds with me against these, but Michael your prince.

Jude 1:9. But Michael, the archangel, when contending with the devil and arguing about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him an abusive condemnation, but said, “May the Lord rebuke you!”

Revelation 12:7. Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. (NIV translation)

 

MICHAEL PREVAILS

 

Isaiah 14:12. How you have fallen from heaven, shining one, son of the dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low!

Ezekiel 28:17. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty. You have corrupted your wisdom by reason of your splendor. I have cast you to the ground. I have laid you before kings, that they may see you.

Luke 10:18. He said to them, “I saw Satan having fallen like lightning from heaven.

Revelation 12:9. The great dragon was thrown down, the old serpent, he who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world. He was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.
