Are you a Servant of the Lord Jesus or his Friend?

Many people in Christian ministry refer to themselves as “servants” of the Lord Jesus. However, we can also be his friends!

SERVANTS

Many of the heroes in the Bible, such as Moses and Joshua and David, were called servants of the LORD God:

Numbers 12:7. My servant Moses is not so. He is faithful in all my house.

Deuteronomy 34:5. So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the LORD’s word.

Joshua 24:29. After these things, Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being one hundred ten years old.

Psalm 89:20. I have found David, my servant. I have anointed him with my holy oil,

Matthew 25:23. His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a few things, I will set you over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.’

Hebrews 3:5. Moses indeed was faithful in all his house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were afterward to be spoken,

To be called a servant of the Most High God is a great priviledge. Yet there is even more:

FRIENDS

To be deemed a servant of the LORD God is an exceptional priviledge. And yet there is more. We can be his friends.

In the Old Testament era, Abraham was a “friend” of the LORD God.

Isaiah 41:8. But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham my friend,

In the New Testament era, we Christians are called to be a “friend” of the Lord Jesus.

John 15:15. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant doesn’t know what his lord does. But I have called you friends, for everything that I heard from my Father, I have made known to you.

Are you a FRIEND of the Lord Jesus? How would you define being his friend?
