He who comes after me is mightier than I
The mighty John the Baptist knew that he was nothing, compared with Jesus Christ. He saw his purpose as pointing people to the Lord Jesus.
INTRODUCTION
John the Baptist knew his place. He knew he was but a bit-player in the drama of salvation. His role was to introduce the Messiah.
He did not want to attract people to himself. Instead, he wanted to point them to Jesus. He wanted Jesus to be the center of attention.
John the Baptist burned for Jesus Christ. His faith shone like a lamp, lighting up the world. With his zeal, he pointed people not to himself but to Jesus Christ!
In our era, many Christians forget this. They see themselves as essential in the lives of people.
However, the faith is not about us. It is all about Jesus Christ.
It is not about us individual Christians. Nor our churches nor our denominations. Nor politics.
When we are at the center of our own lives, that is not Christianity. Christianity is when Jesus Christ is at the center of our lives.
We are to be all about the Lord Jesus:
2 Corinthians 4:5. For we don’t preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake,
