Isaiah calls for True Fasting

People were keeping their religious obligations and even fasting. But they were corrupt and oppressed their employees. Isaiah called them to True Fasting.

Here is the key Bible verse:

Isaiah 58:6-7. Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? 7 Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh?

Those two verses describe the ultimate kind of fasting. This is the fasting that has God’s highest endorsement.

We are to fast from hypocrisy. We are to stop enslaving people. We are to stop oppressing people.

We are to liberate people from bondage. We are to give food to people who are hungry. We are to provide housing for people who are homeless. We are to provide clothing for people who need it. We must stop ignoring human suffering.

After we do those things, change will occur. Our spiritual lives will be transformed. We will be taken to a whole new level. Isaiah continues:

Isaiah 58:8-9. Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you; and the LORD’s glory will be your rear guard. 9 Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; you will cry for help, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’

Wouldn’t it be great to experience life in those ways?

CAUTION

Fasting is only for those who are medically capable. Check with your health care provider. Experts say you need to be under the supervision of a doctor during the time of a fast.
