Gifts of the Holy Spirit and eternal salvation

Why are we given the Gifts of the Holy Spirit? One reason is that they testify to the reality of eternal salvation.

In Hebrews chapter 2 we read:

Hebrews 2:4. God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders, by various works of power and by gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to his own will?

The NIV translation puts it this way:

God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles, and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.

God is testifying to us. He is providing us with evidence of our eternal salvation. He gives us signs and wonders. He gives us miracles.

And he gives us the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
