You cannot see my Face, for no one can see Me and live

Jacob saw the LORD God face-to-face. But after that, nobody was permitted to see the face of God. Not even Moses. No one was permitted to see him and live.

 


 

INTRODUCTION

 

Jacob saw the LORD God face-to-face. But after that, nobody was permitted to see the face of God. Not even Moses. No one was permitted to see him and live.

Even for Moses, there was a limitation to how close he could draw to God. Moses could see the form of the LORD God, but not his face.

That said, to behold the form of God would be awesome!

How was it that the biblical people could see the form of God?

 

BIBLE VERSES

 

Genesis 32:30. Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for he said, “I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”

Exodus 24:10. They saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was like a paved work of sapphire stone, like the skies for clearness.

Exodus 33:20. He said, “You cannot see my face, for man may not see me and live.”

Exodus 33:23. then I will take away my hand, and you will see my back; but my face shall not be seen.”

Numbers 12:8. With him, I will speak mouth to mouth, even plainly, and not in riddles; and he shall see the LORD’s form. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses?”

Judges 6:23. The LORD said to [Gideon], “Peace be to you! Don’t be afraid. You shall not die.”
