Are you gifted for Knowledge?

| |

Has the Holy Spirit given you the ministry gift of Knowledge? It is to accumulate knowledge of the faith and minister by sharing it with others.

IN THE BIBLE

1 Corinthians 12:8. For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom, and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;

knowledge. The Greek word is γνώσεως (“gnosis”). It literally means knowledge.

1 Corinthians 13:2. If I have the gift of prophecy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge; and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but don’t have love, I am nothing.

I am nothing. If we are not motivated by love, the gift of knowledge will be worth nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:8. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

knowledge … will be done away with. In the realm of eternity, there will be no need for the Gift of Knowledge.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Whereas the gift of wisdom means seeing into something else, the gift of knowledge means knowing things.

Professors and scientists seem to remember just about every bit of information they’ve ever learned. They can talk with authority about things they learned decades ago. They’re not arrogant. It’s just their gifting. They remember it all. For scores of topics, they have knowledge.

The person who’s gifted with spiritual knowledge is the one you probably go to for help in seeing where something is in the Bible. It’s the one who can derive insights from the history of the Christian faith.

Think of a Bible teacher or catechist. Think of a learned theology professor. Years or decades of reading the Bible and theological books combines with their gift of knowledge, and they become somebody that people want to learn from.

This gift is very closely related to our Five Key Ministries: Evangelism, Discipleship, Apologetics, Ecumenism, and Interreligious Dialogue.

Do not mistake this Gift as something that is bestowed at ordination. An ordained person might (or might not) have this gift.

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Have you accumulated lots of knowledge about the Bible? Are you conversant in the theology or the history of the Christian movement? Can you recall these things, even partly?

If so, you may well have this gift!

Now it is time to try it out »
