Are you gifted for Speaking in Tongues?

| |

Has the Holy Spirit given you the ministry gift of Tongues? It is flowing speech in some unknown language.

IN THE BIBLE

1 Corinthians 12:10. and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages.

languages. The Greek word is γλωσσῶν (“glōssōn”). It is spontaneous flowing speech in some unknown language.

1 Corinthians 12:28. God has set some in the assembly: first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracle workers, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, and various kinds of languages.

languages. The Greek word is the same as above: γλωσσῶν (“glōssōn”). It is spontaneous flowing speech in some unknown language.

1 Corinthians 13:1. If I speak with the languages of men and of angels, but don’t have love, I have become sounding brass, or a clanging cymbal.

don’t have love. If we are not motivated by love, the gift of tongues will only come across as noise.

1 Corinthians 13:8. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will be done away with. Where there are various languages, they will cease. Where there is knowledge, it will be done away with.

languages … will cease. In the realm of eternity, there will be no need for the Gift of Tongues.

1 Corinthians 14:5. Now I desire to have you all speak with other LANGUAGES, but rather that you would prophesy. For he is greater who prophesies than he who speaks with other languages, unless he interprets, that the assembly may be built up.

The Greek word is γλώσσαις (“glōssais”). It means tongue or language.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

Here are some variations on the unknown language:

  1. The language might be the language of angels.
  2. The language might be a human language unknown to the speaker. That is what happened when the 120 believers in the Upper Room experienced tongues as of fire, and then rushed out into the street and spoke in other languages and dialects that they did not know.
  3. The language might be some obscure dialect, or a language that’s been out of fluency for millennia.
  4. The language might be a spiritual language that’s unknown to everyone but God.

Do not dismiss this gift as a fraud.

St. Paul desired that we all be able to speak in all sorts of tongues (see 1 Corinthians 14:5, above).

HOW ABOUT YOU?

Does speaking in tongues seem interesting to you? Do you want to go to a church where they speak in tongues?

If so, you may well have this gift!

Now it is time to try it out »
