Are you gifted you for Discernment?

Has the Holy Spirit given you the ministry gift of Discernment? It is minister to others by sleuthing the subtle differences between options.




1 Corinthians 12:10. and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; to another different kinds of languages; and to another the interpretation of languages.

discerning of spirits. The Greek word is διακρίσεις (“diakriseis”). It means distinguishing, discerning, deciding, passing sentence on.




Th is is the person you want to go see when you’re stuck. Maybe you’re wrestling with two different theological issues. Or maybe you wonder if God would have you do “A” or “B.”

Perhaps a disruptive person has showed up in your church. You need to discern what is up with the person. You’ll probably end up calling upon somebody who has the Gift of Discernment.

Do not equate this Gift with a spiritual director. A spiritual director might (or might not) have this Gift.



Are you able to discern differences between “A” and “B?” Do people seek your advice? If so, you may well have this gift.

Sirach 44:3. Such as did bear rule in their kingdoms, And were men renowned for their power, Giving counsel by their understanding, Such as have brought tidings in prophecies:

Proverbs 14:15. A simple man believes everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.

Isaiah 11:2. The LORD’s Spirit will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD.
