Mount Moriah

| |

Mount Moriah was an important location for Abraham, David, and Solomon. Great events took place there. Today we know it as the Temple Mount.

ABRAHAM

Mount Moriah was where Abraham tried to sacrifice Isaac:

Genesis 22:2. He said, “Now take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go into the land of Moriah. Offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will tell you of.”

Genesis 22:14. Abraham called the name of that place “The LORD Will Provide”. As it is said to this day, “On the LORD’s mountain, it will be provided.”

DAVID

At the time of David’s illegal census, the threshing floor of Ornan was located at Mount Moriah:

1 Chronicles 21:15. God sent an angel to Jerusalem to destroy it. As he was about to destroy, the LORD saw, and he relented of the disaster, and said to the destroying angel, “It is enough. Now withdraw your hand.” the LORD’s angel was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

David bought Mount Moriah as a site for sacrifice, and as the location for the future temple:

1 Chronicles 22:1. Then David said, “This is the house of the LORD God, and this is the altar of burnt offering for Israel.”

SOLOMON

Solomon built the temple on Mount Moriah:

2 Chronicles 3:1. Then Solomon began to build the LORD’s house at Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD appeared to David his father, which he prepared in the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
