The Cloud of Glory

We want to see God. But we are unable to apprehend the LORD God in all his glory. So at the great moments of biblical history, he appears in the hidden form of a Cloud.

 


 

Exodus 24:16. the LORD’s glory settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. The seventh day he called to Moses out of the middle of the cloud.

Exodus 40:34. Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the LORD’s glory filled the tabernacle.

Leviticus 9:23. Moses and Aaron went into the Tent of Meeting, and came out, and blessed the people; and the LORD’s glory appeared to all the people.

Deuteronomy 4:11. You came near and stood under the mountain. The mountain burned with fire to the heart of the sky, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

Deuteronomy 5:22. The LORD spoke these words to all your assembly on the mountain out of the middle of the fire, of the cloud, and of the thick darkness, with a great voice. He added no more. He wrote them on two stone tablets, and gave them to me.

1 Kings 8:10. It came to pass, when the priests had come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the LORD’s house,

1 Kings 8:11. so that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the LORD’s glory filled the LORD’s house.

1 Kings 8:12. Then Solomon said, “The LORD has said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

2 Chronicles 5:13. when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up their voice with the shofars and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying, “For he is good, for his loving kindness endures forever!” then the house was filled with a cloud, even the LORD’s house,

2 Chronicles 6:1. Then Solomon prayed, “O LORD, you have said that you would live in a thick cloud of darkness.” (NLT translation)

2 Chronicles 7:1. Now when Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the LORD’s glory filled the house.

Ezekiel 10:3. Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the house, when the man went in; and the cloud filled the inner court.

 

2 Maccabees 2:10. As Moses prayed to the Lord and fire came down out of heaven and consumed the sacrifice, even so Solomon also prayed, and the fire came down and consumed the burnt offerings.

 

Matthew 3:17. Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Matthew 17:5. While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them. Behold, a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Listen to him.

Mark 9:7. A cloud came, overshadowing them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.”

Revelation 14:14.  I looked, and saw a white cloud, and on the cloud one sitting like a son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.
