Saved by faith and grace

Are we are saved by faith? By God’s grace? By our own good works? Or by some combination of those? What does the Bible tell us?

INTRODUCTION

It is God who saves us. We don’t save ourselves. We’re saved by God’s grace.

People urgently need to hear this. Many Christians and non-Christians duo not know this.

Our Christian leaders talk about morality or helping the poor, politics inside the church or politics in the secular realm, doing miracles or being blessed. Or merit.

Merit has nothing to do with it. Deserving has nothing to do with it.  We simply didn’t deserve it.

That’s the definition of grace. God does some marvelous thing, not because we deserved it, but as a generous gift.

He did this. We did NOT do it ourselves. We didn’t save ourselves. It wasn’t our own good works or religious observances that saved us. No, what counts is what God did.

Doers of the law will be justified. We Christians say salvation is by faith. Yet the New Testament calls us to put our faith into action. Otherwise our faith is worthless.

Eternal salvation cannot be bought. People cannot be redeemed with money. The ransom for a life is costly. No payment is ever enough.

Saved by faith and grace. The Bible tells us we are saved by faith and God’s grace, and not by our own works.

Showing hospitality to strangers. When three strangers arrive, Abraham welcomes them into his camp and treats them like royalty. This is called “desert hospitality.” We are to do the same.

True Fasting. Most of us think fasting is about food. But the prophet Isaiah calls for TRUE fasting. It is to undo injustice and oppression. It is to feed and clothe poor people.

What you did to the least of these. Salvation is by faith. Yet our eternity will be based on how we treat the weakest members of society.
