The root of evil

INTRODUCTION

The Bible is clear as to the root of evil. And yet Christians explain it away in order to justify their greed.

Why? There are many reasons:

Some Christians see rich people, such as billionaires, as their heroes. Contrast that with the Lord Jesus, who esteemed outcasts.

Some Christians believe stockpiling money only for self is to live a blessed life. Contrast that with the Bible, which sees the love of money as the root of all evil.

Some Christians withhold giving to poor people so they can invest for their own future. However, our future is uncertain. Our life is a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes (see James 4:14). We don’t even know if we will be alive tomorrow.

Some Christians are, simply put, greedy. They have not yet allowed the Holy Spirit to purge their greed from their life.

Some Christians, especially in the U.S., express contempt for poor people and homeless people. Contrast that with the Lord Jesus, who favored them.

Some Christians, especially in the U.S., hoard wealth and supplies for themselves because they believe civilization will fall. However, as mentioned above, the future is uncertain. Our life is a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes (see James 4:14). We don’t even know if we will be alive tomorrow.
