Isaiah chapter 54

Great salvation will come to Israel.

GREAT SALVATION WILL COME TO ISRAEL

VERSE 1. “Sing, barren, you who didn’t give birth; break out into singing, and cry aloud, you who didn’t travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife,” says the LORD.

BBE translation. Let your voice be loud in song, O woman without children; make melody and sounds of joy, you who did not give birth: for the children of her who had no husband are more than those of the married wife, says the Lord.

The Lord Jesus Christ quoted this verse.

VERSE 2. “Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your habitations; don’t spare: lengthen your cords, and strengthen your stakes.

NASB translation. Enlarge the place of your tent; Stretch out the curtains of your dwellings, spare not; Lengthen your cords And strengthen your pegs. For you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. And your descendants will possess nations And will resettle the desolate cities.

Enlarge the place of your tent. The LORD God wishes to increase us.

He commands us to make preparations for increase now, not later.

you will spread abroad to the right and to the left. The LORD God will cause increase.

We will multiply, spread abroad; expand to the right and to left.

Our spiritual prodigy will move into spiritually dead places and fill them with the life and light of Jesus Christ.

your descendants will possess nations. Wow!

VERSE 3. For you will spread out on the right hand and on the left; and your offspring will possess the nations and settle in desolate cities.

NLT translation. For you will soon be bursting at the seams. Your descendants will occupy other nations and resettle the ruined cities.

you will soon be bursting at the seams. Wow!

VERSE 4. “Don’t be afraid, for you will not be ashamed. Don’t be confounded, for you will not be disappointed. For you will forget the shame of your youth. You will remember the reproach of your widowhood no more.

you will forget the shame of your youth. Some people had horrible childhoods.

The memory of those awful years will soften and fade away.

VERSE 5. For your Maker is your husband; the LORD of Hosts is his name. The Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer. He will be called the God of the whole earth.

VERSE 6. For the LORD has called you as a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, even a wife of youth, when she is cast off,” says your God.

NAB translation. The LORD calls you back, like a wife forsaken and grieved in spirit, a wife married in youth and then cast off, says your God.

The LORD calls you back. The LORD God will regather Israel the way lovers call each other back.

VERSE 7. “For a small moment I have forsaken you, but I will gather you with great mercies.

BBE translation. For a short time I gave you up; but with great mercies I will take you back again.

For a short time I gave you up. Some people feel the LORD God had abandoned them.

At a critical moment, they were not protected. There was no miracle. There was no protector. There was no rescue.

VERSE 8. In overflowing wrath I hid my face from you for a moment, but with everlasting loving kindness I will have mercy on you,” says the LORD your Redeemer.

In overflowing wrath. The LORD God’s wrath means he hides his face from us.

with everlasting loving kindness I will have mercy on you. Wow!

VERSE 9. “For this is like the waters of Noah to me; for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah will no more go over the earth, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you, nor rebuke you.

VERSE 10. For the mountains may depart, and the hills be removed; but my loving kindness will not depart from you, and my covenant of peace will not be removed,” says the LORD who has mercy on you.

NAB translation. Though the mountains fall away and the hills be shaken, My love shall never fall away from you nor my covenant of peace be shaken, says the LORD, who has mercy on you.

My love shall never fall away from you. The LORD God will never withdraw his love from us!

VERSE 11. “You afflicted, tossed with storms, and not comforted, behold, I will set your stones in beautiful colors, and lay your foundations with sapphires.

VERSE 12. I will make your pinnacles of rubies, your gates of sparkling jewels, and all your walls of precious stones.

VERSE 13. All your children will be taught by the LORD; and your children’s peace will be great.

John 6:45. It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learned, comes to me.

VERSE 14. You will be established in righteousness. You will be far from oppression, for you will not be afraid, and far from terror, for it shall not come near you.

BBE translation. All your rights will be made certain to you: have no fear of evil, and destruction will not come near you.

All your rights will be made certain to you. The LORD God will help us understand our rights as human beings.

VERSE 15. Behold, they may gather together, but not by me. Whoever gathers together against you will fall because of you.

VERSE 16. “Behold, I have created the blacksmith who fans the coals into flame, and forges a weapon for his work; and I have created the destroyer to destroy.

VERSE 17. No weapon that is formed against you will prevail; and you will condemn every tongue that rises against you in judgment. This is the heritage of the LORD’s servants, and their righteousness is of me,” says the LORD.

KJV translation. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.

This verse is fantastic! Would you consider memorizing it? More great verses to memorize from the Book of Isaiah and from the entire Bible.

No weapon that is formed against you will prevail. No attack that someone makes against us will work.

The LORD God will “shield” us from attack.

you will condemn every tongue that rises against you. If someone speaks against us, we are to rise up and defend ourselves.

We are to defend ourselves.

their righteousness is of me. The LORD God will give us the righteous power to do these things.
