Isaiah chapter 12

The remnant will give thanks.

 


 

THE REMNANT WILL GIVE THANKS

 

VERSE 1. In that day you will say, “I will give thanks to you, the LORD; for though you were angry with me, your anger has turned away and you comfort me.

In that day. That is, when they are delivered. The nation is regathered, and the Messiah is reigning.

 

VERSE 2. Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust, and will not be afraid; for the LORD, the LORD, is my strength and song; and he has become my salvation.”

NLT translation. See, God has come to save me. I will trust in him and not be afraid. The LORD GOD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. (NLT)

strength. The LORD God can make us strong.

victory. Thanks to the LORD God, victory is in store for us.

 

VERSE 3. Therefore with joy you will draw water out of the wells of salvation.

BBE translation. So with joy will you get water out of the springs of salvation.

with joy. For Isaiah, walking with God is not an obligation. It is a joy!

Yet many Christians see their faith as a huge set of obligations. For them, Jesus Christ is not a source of joy.

It is as if they have not yet even met Jesus Christ. They live as though they have not been delivered.

get water. We will drink deep from the fountain of salvation.

When we’re in Jesus Christ, things happen! We overflow with thanks to God. We speak his name. We praise him in song. We take his name to people who don’t know him yet.

The trigger for all these things is to drink deeply from the fountain of salvation.

Have you been “saved?” If so, how would anyone know it? Would you neighbors and coworkers be surprised to learn that you believe in Jesus Christ?

VERSE 4. In that day you will say, “Give thanks to the LORD! Call on his name. Declare his doings among the peoples. Proclaim that his name is exalted!

Give thanks to the LORD. The remnant will thank the LORD.

 

VERSE 5. Sing to the LORD, for he has done excellent things! Let this be known in all the earth!

 

VERSE 6. Cry aloud and shout, you inhabitant of Zion; for the Holy One of Israel is great among you!”

BBE translation. Let your voice be sounding in a cry of joy, O daughter of Zion, for great is the Holy One of Israel among you.

in a cry of joy. Joy!

Some Christians have a sad face and a somber demeanor. We wish they could know the joy of their Lord. Holiness is marked by joy. Joy equals strength! Read more »
