Psalm 67

ALL NATIONS ON EARTH

For the Chief Musician. With stringed instruments. A Psalm. A song.

 

VERSE 1. May God be merciful to us, bless us, and cause his face to shine on us. Selah.

May God be merciful to us. It begins with mercy. We need to have a firsthand experience of the mercy of the LORD God.

Everything else we do in the name of the LORD God is based on mercy.

cause his face to shine on us. This is a poetic way of saying that God will shine his favor upon us.

 

VERSE 2. That your way may be known on earth, and your salvation among all nations,

That your way may be known. After we are immersed in the mercy of God, we will be emissaries of his mercy to the whole world.

your salvation among all nations. The Old Testament foresees Gentiles coming to faith in the One God of Israel and bringing gifts to Jerusalem. Here are the key Bible verses about this »

 

VERSE 3. let the peoples praise you, God. Let all the peoples praise you.

let the peoples praise you. That is, let “the nations” praise you. The author foresees the people of all nations praising the One God.

 

VERSE 4. Oh let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you will judge the peoples with equity, and govern the nations on earth. Selah.

The earth has yielded its increase. When all people are immersed in the mercy of God, the planetary harvests will increase greatly.

 

VERSE 7. God will bless us. All the ends of the earth shall fear him.
