Psalm 93
The LORD reigns.
THE LORD REIGNS
VERSE 1. The LORD reigns! He is clothed with majesty! The LORD is armed with strength. The world also is established. It can’t be moved.
The LORD reigns. Most translations say “The LORD is king.” It is an assertion of God’s enduring kingship.
clothed with majesty. In those days, clothing was considered an extension of a person.
If a person is clothed with majesty, it means the person is majestic and powerful.
If the LORD God is clothed with majesty, it means he is supremely majestic and powerful.
The world also is established. All the moral and legal concerns of life will be solidified under the dominion of the LORD God.
VERSE 2. Your throne is established from long ago. You are from everlasting.
from everlasting. The LORD God’s sovereign rule is from eternity.
VERSE 3. The floods have lifted up, LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods lift up their waves.
lift up their waves. Ancient Canaanites believed Baal attained his position of power by overcoming Prince Yamm, which was the sea.
But these verses say the LORD God is mightier than the sea.
VERSE 4. Above the voices of many waters, the mighty breakers of the sea, The LORD on high is mighty.
VERSE 5. Your statutes stand firm. Holiness adorns your house, LORD, forever more.
Your statutes stand firm. The Bible is trustworthy.
